This is part 3 of the Punch Line Video Classics Collection. I found an old school bag with about 100 mini-DV tapes full of old routes, and this was one of them. This is one that I thought a lot of people want to see stuff from so I caught a lot of random clips from the tapes and put them together. This is a piece of my monthly clinic series I at the First Act Guitar Studio in Boston, MA on Boylston St. right down the street from my "day gig" – Berklee College of Music, where I am a professor in the Guitar Department. It is co-sponsor of the first act and the now defunct Guitar One magazine (formerly day my other GIG) and allows me to share it with some killer players like the two I'm here with – Tony Grey (Hiromi) on bass and Lyndon Rochelle on drums. We rockin '(so to speak) a Jeff Beckinclude melody, called "The Pump" from his "There and Back", but we do it in the style of my buddy Steve Lukather with my own brand of madness mixed. I did some research on Luke for my March 2006 Guitar One feature piece on him and I ran into a live recording of him making this melody and I dug it. So much, I thought I, to go around it and I thought, this clinic was a good time to let it fall. Be it known, I can see and play with the boys once a year, and we get minutes betweenare classes / ensembles play tunes, we play at different moments in the week – so what I say is, there is an element of looseness here, so, uh, give us a little slack. Also, I did not intentionally Edit Tony's solo – I really love his game, especially his improvisations. Someone pushed, either the camera, turn it, or farted the mini-DV tape, because it was distorted a little, and I have as best I could.
